Jamshedpur, June 23: The monsoon continues to intensify across Jharkhand, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in various parts of the state over the next four days.

Rainfall Outlook

June 23: Heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places over the north-eastern districts of Jharkhand. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely across the state.

June 24 & 25: The focus of the rainfall activity is expected to shift to the south-western parts, where isolated heavy downpours are forecast. Thunderstorm and lightning activity will continue to affect most regions.

June 26: Thunderstorms and lightning are likely at isolated places across the state.

IMD’s Ranchi centre has urged residents, especially in vulnerable areas, to remain alert and take necessary precautions during this period of heightened weather activity.

Synoptic Situation

The current monsoon dynamics are being influenced by several significant synoptic features.

A low-pressure area that had formed over southeast Uttar Pradesh and its neighbourhood is now centred over the central parts of south Uttar Pradesh. It is accompanied by an upper air cyclonic circulation extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level, tilting southward with height. The system is expected to gradually weaken.

An east-west shear line—a typical monsoon feature—is currently stretching from south Pakistan through central Rajasthan, northwest Madhya Pradesh, south Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and into Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal.

This feature lies between 1.5 and 4.5 km above mean sea level and is also tilting southward with height, helping sustain moisture influx and atmospheric instability.

Monsoon Line Update

The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) as of June 23, 2025, passes through: 25.0°N/60.0°E, 25.0°N/65.0°E, 25.5°N/70.0°E, Jaipur, Agra, Rampur, Dehradun, Shimla, Pathankot, Jammu, 33.5°N/73.0°E, and 34.0°N/71.0°E.

This indicates that the monsoon has made significant northward progress, with conditions now favourable for further advancement in the coming days.
