PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, June 26: Get ready for wet days ahead as Jharkhand braces for a fresh spell of heavy monsoon activity. The India Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert predicting very heavy rainfall at isolated places over the south-western parts of the state today.

Weather Highlights

June 26: Very heavy rainfall expected in isolated areas of south-western Jharkhand.

Heavy rainfall also likely over southern and adjoining central regions.

Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty winds (speed: 30–40 kmph) may occur at isolated locations across the state.

June 27: Continued threat of heavy rainfall in southern and central parts.

Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty winds may strike again across the state.

June 28: Rainfall intensity to shift towards south-western and north-central regions.

Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty winds remains a threat throughout the state.

Monsoon Progress & Synoptic Conditions

The northern limit of the monsoon currently stretches through Barmer, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Agra, Rampur, Bijnor, Karnal, Halwara, and up to 33.0°N/70.5°E — indicating steady advancement.

Key synoptic features include:

A cyclonic circulation over northeast Madhya Pradesh extending up to 5.8 km, with a southward tilt.

Another upper air cyclonic circulation over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha–West Bengal coasts, reaching up to 7.6 km with a southwestward tilt.

A low-pressure area is likely to develop in this region within the next 24 hours, which may further intensify rainfall activity over Jharkhand in the coming days.
