Jamshedpur, April 25: Jharkhand is bracing for a spell of extreme weather, with hot and humid conditions likely to persist in isolated areas of the southern and north-eastern parts of the state on April 25 and 26, according to the latest meteorological update.

The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Ranchi centre has also forecast thunderstorm activity accompanied by gusty winds and hail in several regions over the next few days.

On April 26, isolated areas in the north-eastern and south-eastern parts of the state are expected to experience thunderstorms and lightning, with wind speeds reaching up to 30-40 Kmph.

The intensity is set to increase on April 27, with thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorms likely over north-eastern and adjoining central Jharkhand.

Southern and central parts may also witness gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 Kmph.

The situation is predicted to escalate further on April 28, with wind speeds potentially peaking at 50-60 Kmph in the north-eastern and central regions, accompanied by hailstorms and lightning. Southern and north-western areas may also face similar conditions.

The prevailing weather pattern is being influenced by a trough extending from a cyclonic circulation over north Bangladesh to north Odisha across Gangetic West Bengal at 0.9 Km above mean sea level.

Meanwhile, heatwave-like conditions have already begun to take a toll. The mercury soared to a scorching 43°C in Jamshedpur and Daltonganj, while daytime temperatures in Ranchi and surrounding regions hovered around 39°C, adding to the discomfort.

Authorities have advised residents to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, remain hydrated, and be alert to weather advisories as the state enters a period of heightened meteorological activity.
