THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

Ranchi, August 13: The Jharkhand High Court has directed the state government to use the Special Branch to identify and take action against Bangladeshi-origin infiltrators in the Santhal Pargana region.

This order was issued by a bench comprising the Acting Chief Justice and Justice Arun Kumar Rai on August 8, while hearing a public interest litigation filed by Danyal Danish. A detailed copy of the court’s order is available on the High Court’s website.

In its order, the High Court clearly stated that the district administration must verify the land and other relevant documents of individuals before issuing identification documents such as ration cards, Aadhaar cards, and voter ID cards in the six districts of Santhal Pargana.

In the public interest litigation filed by Danyal Danish, the High Court has also made the Director Generals of the Border Security Force (BSF), the Unique Identification Authority of India (UID), the Election Commission of India, the Intelligence Bureau, and the Director of the National Investigation Agency respondents in the case.

The petitioner’s advocate informed the court that between 1951 and 2011, the population of Scheduled Tribes in the Santhal region decreased from 44.67% to 28.11% due to the entry of infiltrators. On the other hand, the Muslim population increased from 9.44% to 22.73%. The court will now hear the case on August 22.
