Dhanbad, August 18: IIT (ISM) Dhanbad alumnus Shubhankar Pratyush Pathak has been awarded the GOC-in-C Northern Command Commendation Card for his outstanding and exemplary service to the nation.

Currently serving as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Uri, he received the medal from the Northern Army Commander in recognition of his dedication and contribution.

Academic Excellence and UPSC Success
Shubhankar, a 2020 Electrical Engineering graduate from IIT Dhanbad, secured All India Rank 11 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2021. His achievement brought pride not only to his alma mater but also to his hometown.

Born and raised in a modest village in East Champaran, Bihar, Shubhankar was inspired by his father, IAS officer Rajesh Pathak, to pursue civil services and contribute meaningfully to society.
Journey from Engineering to Civil Service
After completing his B.Tech, Shubhankar briefly worked as a software engineer but resigned in February 2021 to dedicate himself fully to UPSC preparation. His disciplined approach, clarity in subject selection, and authenticity during interviews played a key role in his success.
