SUBHASH MISHRA
Dhanbad, March 19: Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, has been selected for the Distinguished Alumnus Award 2024 by the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela. The award recognizes his significant contributions to academia and research and will be conferred upon him next month.

Academic Journey and Professional Career
Prof. Mishra earned his M.Tech and Ph.D. degrees from NIT Rourkela in 1992 and 2000, respectively. He began his academic career as a lecturer at Sambalpur University, Odisha, where he served for nine years. He later joined Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT), Odisha, as a Reader before transitioning to prestigious roles in the IIT system.
On May 15, 2024, he assumed office as the Director of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. Before this, he held key administrative positions, including Dean of Research and External Engagement at the IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi campus and Associate Dean (R&D) at IIT Delhi.

Contributions to Research and Professional Engagement
Prof. Mishra has been an active member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Delhi Section, serving on its executive committee.
His research expertise spans Power Systems, Power Quality Studies, Renewable Energy, and Smart Grid technologies, areas that have significantly contributed to advancements in the field.
Recognition and Prestigious Awards
Over the years, Prof. Mishra has received numerous accolades for his contributions. He was honored with the Young Scientist Award (1999) by Orissa Bigyan Academy, the INSA Medal for Young Scientists (2002), the INAE Young Engineer Award (2002), and the INAE Silver Jubilee Young Engineer Award (2012).
His achievements were further recognized with the Samanta Chandra Shekhar Award (2016), the Bimal Bose Award (2019), and the NASI-Reliance Platinum Jubilee Award (2019).
His dedication to research and innovation has also earned him the National Mission Innovation Championship Award (2019), the INAE Outstanding Teachers Award (2021), the Innovation Leadership Award (2023), and the Prof. K.L. Chopra Applied Research Award (2023).
