IMA Jharkhand calls emergent state executive meeting on January 18

Ranchi, Jan 16: The Jharkhand state chapter of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has convened an emergent executive meeting on Sunday, January 18, at the IMA Hall in Ranchi to deliberate on several pending and crucial organisational issues.

IMA state president Dr A K Singh and state secretary Dr Pradeep Kumar Singh have appealed to all executive members to attend the meeting on a priority basis, citing the importance of matters to be taken up.

Although the IMA leadership has not officially disclosed the agenda, the long-pending state chapter elections are expected to be a key point of discussion. The elections have been due since 2022, but have been delayed due to non-cooperation from certain district units.

District polls delay state election

At an executive meeting held on March 2, 2025, in Dhanbad, the state IMA had directed all district chapters to complete their organisational elections within three months to facilitate the state-level polls.

While districts such as Chas, Giridih, and others complied with the directive, the Ranchi district chapter has failed to conduct its election even after ten months, creating a bottleneck in the process.

Ranchi unit under scrutiny

A senior office bearer of the state IMA said that despite repeated reminders, the Ranchi district unit has not responded regarding its election schedule. Last month, state secretary Dr Pradeep Kumar Singh had publicly acknowledged that the delay in the Ranchi district election was holding up the state chapter polls.

He had also warned that the state chapter may be compelled to forward the previous list of council members to the national headquarters if the Ranchi unit fails to conduct its election within a month.

National leadership pressure

The Jharkhand IMA is also under pressure to complete the election process as the IMA’s national vice-president (headquarters), Dr D Tiwari, hails from Deoghar. Senior members noted that Dr Tiwari is closely monitoring organisational activities in Jharkhand, as well as across other states, to ensure the association remains active and structurally robust.
