New Delhi, Dec 18: Leaders of the INDI Alliance today staged a protest against Home Minister Amit Shah in the Parliament premises over his speech in the Rajya Sabha yesterday. They accused him of insulting Dr. Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar.

The protesting MPs were holding pictures of Ambedkar. The protest was led by Wayanad MP Priyanka, with MPs chanting slogans in support of Dr. Ambedkar and against the Modi government.

The protest was joined by several prominent leaders, including Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Varsha Gaikwad, Kumari Selja, AAP MP Sanjay Singh, RJD MP Manoj Sinha and leaders from various parties.

Kharge also demanded the resignation of Amit Shah. “We demand Home Minister Amit Shah’s resignation. India will not tolerate the insult of Baba Saheb Dr. Ambedkar!”, Kharge posted on X.

This protest followed Amit Shah’s attack on the Congress party, where he remarked that mentioning Ambedkar’s name had become a “fashion” for the party.

“If they had taken the name of God so many times instead of Ambedkar then they would have got heaven for seven lives,” Shah said in Rajya Sabha yesterday.

Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal stated that the BJP has revealed its mindset, adding that Baba Saheb was insulted in Parliament. Opposition leaders alleged that while responding to the discussion on the Constitution in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, Amit Shah had insulted Baba Saheb.

They emphasized that the opposition parties would not accept this insult and demanded an apology from Amit Shah.
