New Delhi, August 10: The Indian men’s hockey team, which won the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics, returned to India on Saturday morning. The team received a grand welcome at the airport in New Delhi, with captain Harmanpreet Singh and the team being greeted with flower garlands and traditional drums.
Harmanpreet, who scored the most goals (10) at the Paris Olympics, expressed gratitude, saying that they received full support and all their needs were met. He added that this achievement is a significant milestone for hockey. Harmanpreet noted that the love and support they received have increased their responsibility, and they will strive to win medals every time they compete.
Sreejesh and others will return India after closing ceremony
Not all members of the Indian men’s hockey team have returned to India. Goalkeeper P.R. Sreejesh, Amit Rohidas, Rajkumar Pal, Abhishek, Sukhjeet Singh, and Sanjay will return after the closing ceremony. Sreejesh and shooter Manu Bhaker will be the flag bearers for India at the Paris Olympics closing ceremony.
India’s 13th medal in Olympics in hockey
Indian team won the bronze medal by defeating Spain 2-1 in the bronze medal match on Thursday. This is India’s 13th Olympic medal in hockey. After winning bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, India secured another medal at the Paris Olympics, marking the second consecutive Olympic medal for the country in hockey.
The last time India won consecutive Olympic medals was 52 years ago. From 1960 to 1972, India won four consecutive medals in hockey. However, the country did not win any medals in the 1976 Olympics. India then made a comeback by winning gold in 1980. Overall, this is India’s 13th Olympic medal in hockey, including eight gold medals.
