Kallang, May 31: Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, the Indian women’s badminton doubles team, defeated Kim So Yeong and Kong Hee Yong of South Korea on Friday to advance to the semi-finals of Singapore Open 2024.

In the women’s doubles quarterfinal match that lasted one hour and 19 minutes, Jolly and Gopichand defeated their opponents 21-16, 19-21, and 22-24.

The Indian pair of Jolly and Gopichand had a shaky start, losing the first set 21-18. However, they remained composed and made a remarkable comeback against the Olympic bronze medallists, winning the second and third sets 19-21 and 22-24.

On the other hand, top Indian shuttler PV Sindhu faced a second-round defeat at the Singapore Open 2024 on Thursday.

Sindhu endured her sixth consecutive loss to Carolina Marin in a thrilling three-game match, ending 21-13, 11-21, 20-22, after one hour and eight minutes at the Singapore Open 2024.
