New Delhi, Jan 15: The health ministry on Monday reported 272 new cases of Covid in India, with the number of active infections decreasing to 2,990.
The ministry’s data, which was updated at 8 am, shows that no deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours.
Up until December 5, 2023, the number of daily cases had fallen to double digits; however, following the emergence of a new variation and the occurrence of cold weather, they started to rise again.
92% of active cases under home isolation
On December 31, 2023, 841 new cases were reported in a single day, accounting for 0.2% of the peak cases reported in May 2021, official sources stated.
The majority of active cases, approximately 92 per cent, are undergoing recovery through home isolation out of the total active cases.
“The currently available data suggests that the JN.1 variant is neither leading to an exponential rise in new cases nor a surge in hospitalisation and mortality,” the sources said.
