Chennai, August 24: India on Saturday successfully launched its first reusable hybrid rocket, ‘RHUMI-1,’ developed by Tamil Nadu-based start-up Space Zone India in collaboration with the Martin Group, from Thiruvidandhai, Chennai.

The rocket, loaded with 3 Cube Satellites and 50 PICO Satellites, was launched into a suborbital trajectory via a mobile launcher.

These satellites will gather data for research on global warming and climate change. The RHUMI rocket features a hybrid motor powered by generic fuel and an electrically triggered parachute deployer. It is entirely pyrotechnic-free, containing 0% TNT.

The RHUMI mission is headed by Anand Megalingam, founder of Space Zone, with guidance from Dr. Mylswamy Annadurai, former Director of ISRO Satellite Centre (ISAC).

The RHUMI-1 rocket integrates the benefits of both liquid and solid fuel propellant systems to enhance efficiency and lower operational costs.

Space Zone India, based in Chennai, is an aerospace technology company focused on offering affordable, long-term solutions for the space industry.
