Jamshedpur, August 24: In a powerful demonstration of solidarity and demand for justice, social organization Naman, led by Amarpreet Singh Kale, staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in East Singhbhum today. The protest aimed to raise awareness about the increasing incidents of rape and violence against women across the country and to demand swift and strict judicial action against perpetrators.

Memorandum seeks President’s immediate intervention

During the demonstration, the delegation from Naman presented a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, which was addressed to the President of India. The memorandum, written in the form of a plea from concerned citizens, expressed deep anguish over the rising cases of sexual violence and called for urgent reforms in the judicial process to ensure justice for victims.

Lack of swift punishment for offenders

“Every day, the news of misbehaviour and atrocities against women fills our newspapers and news channels, shaking our hearts,” the memorandum stated. “But what angers us the most is when efforts are made by the government and system to protect such heinous criminals. This is not just an insult to justice, but a situation that hurts humanity and is a blot on civilization.”

The organization also raised concerns about the slow pace of the judicial process and the lack of swift punishment for offenders, which they believe contributes to a lack of fear among criminals. The memorandum called for immediate reforms to address these issues and restore public confidence in the legal system.

The main demands outlined in the memorandum are:

Formation of Special Fast-Track Courts: Establish fast-track courts for heinous crimes to ensure daily hearings and prompt verdicts.

Death Penalty for Convicted Offenders: Ensure that those found guilty of such crimes are given the death penalty within a stipulated time frame.

Strict Action Against Complicit Officials: Take stringent action against any officers or politicians found to be protecting criminals or obstructing justice.

Enhanced Safety Measures for Women: Special arrangements should be made for the safety of women, including the organization’s own proposals for local improvements.
