Kolkata/Ranchi, May 13: Jharkhand Industries Minister Sanjay Prasad Yadav on Wednesday inaugurated Jharcraft’s new emporium on Theatre Road in Kolkata, describing it as a major step towards promoting the state’s artisans, weavers, and traditional crafts on a wider platform.
The new outlet, which opens for customers from Wednesday, is expected to showcase Jharkhand’s rich heritage of handicrafts, handlooms, Tussar silk, Dokra art, bamboo and wood crafts, and tribal culture.
Industries Secretary Arva Rajkamal and senior officials of the Industries Department and Jharcraft were also present at the inauguration ceremony.

‘Symbol of dreams and self-confidence of artisans’
Addressing the gathering, Industries Minister Sanjay Prasad Yadav said the new emporium is not just a sales centre but a symbol of the aspirations and hard work of thousands of artisans from Jharkhand.
“This emporium is not merely a marketplace for products. It symbolises the dreams, hard work, and self-confidence of thousands of artisans from Jharkhand,” Yadav said.
He added that the initiative would help generate rural employment and further strengthen women’s empowerment in the state.
“Jharcraft has consistently worked towards making artisans, weavers, and rural women self-reliant while giving their skills recognition at national and international levels,” the minister said.
Kolkata outlet to connect cultures of two states
Calling the inauguration a significant achievement, Yadav said Kolkata’s cultural and historical importance makes the launch even more special.
“Jharkhand has a unique identity in the country not only because of its natural resources but also because of its rich tradition of handicrafts, handlooms, Tussar silk, Dokra art, bamboo and wood crafts, and tribal culture,” he said.
Industries Secretary Arva Rajkamal said the new outlet would help strengthen cultural ties between Jharkhand and West Bengal.
“Kolkata has long been a centre of art, literature, and culture. This emporium will act as a bridge connecting the cultural heritage of the two states,” Rajkamal said.
He added that customers visiting the showroom would experience a blend of Jharkhand’s traditional art forms and modern designs.
More Jharcraft emporiums planned in metro cities
Jharcraft Managing Director Garima Singh expressed confidence that the Kolkata outlet would receive a strong response from customers and help provide a new identity to Jharkhand’s art and culture.
“This new emporium will become popular among the people of Kolkata and give fresh recognition to Jharkhand’s art and culture,” she said.
She also said efforts are underway to open Jharcraft emporiums in other major metropolitan cities in the coming years.
