Dhanbad, Dec 13: The Income Tax (IT) department today raided Ankur Biochem Pvt liquor factory, based at Tetulia near Jharkhand – West Bengal border under the Nirsa police station, around 27 km from here.

The liquor factory belongs to Mahendra Sharma, a resident of Rajasthan. He lives in Asansol (West Bengal). The IT team is also conducting raids simultaneously at his Asansol-based house, offices and Jharkhand’s Dhanbad (Nirsa) based liquor factory.

The people residing near the Tetulia liquor factory said that officials in different vehicles arrived at around 5.30 am, and locked the gate of the factory for assessment. The manager and senior staff of the factory also arrived within half an hour.

The raid inside the factory continued till 5 pm.  The security personnel of the IT team neither allowed anyone to go inside nor come out of the premises. It could not be ascertained whether the IT team is from Bengal or any other place as officials posted at the gate did not talk with media persons about it. Since raids are also underway at the residence and offices of Mahendra Sharma in Asansol, IT teams are presumed to belong to Bengal.

Sources said that a BJP leader of Hazaribagh has also a share in the liquor factory. Congress MP Dheeraj Sahu’s connection is also being searched in this raid. The raid is also under progress at the house of former TMC  MLA Sohrab Ali.
