Ranchi, Nov. 2: The BJP today said that the central government gave 2.5 lakh crores to the Jharkhand government during the last five years, which it could not even fully utilize.

BJP leader Gaurav Vallabh, addressing a press conference, said that the last five years of Hemant Soren’s rule have been one of mismanagement and inefficiency. “While the BJP government at the centre has left no stone unturned to provide all possible assistance to the JMM-led Jharkhand government for the development of the state, Chief Minister Hemant Soren has tried everything possible to stop the development of Jharkhand,” he added.

Jharkhand is 2nd largest producer of horticultural crops

Gaurav Vallabh said while Jharkhand is home to 40% of India’s mineral wealth, 25% of the total steel produced in the country and more than 600 auto accessories, it is also the second largest producer of horticultural crops.

“The government of a state where 42% of the population is between the ages of 15 and 59 should focus on using the resources provided by the Centre to improve the lives of its citizens. Instead, a mix of incompetence, lack of empathy towards the people of the state, and rampant corruption have marred the last 5 years of its rule,” he pointed out.

Maintaining that Jharkhand holds a special place in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s heart, he said the Centre has transferred over ₹4.4 lakh crore to Jharkhand since 2014.

“This massive investment has been directed towards essential sectors such as infrastructure, health, education, tribal and women welfare, and agriculture. One can say that since coming to power, the Modi government has transferred to Jharkhand an amount equivalent to the cost of almost 737 Chandrayaan missions or 4,510 Vande Bharat trains,” he said.

Centre has contributed 51-56% of total revenue receipts for Jharkhand

“Out of the total revenue receipts for the financial year 2024-25, ₹57,301 crore (52%) will come from the central government. Since 2019-20, the Centre has contributed 51-56% of the total revenue receipts for the state,” the BJP leader pointed out.

He further pointed out that the Modi government has given Rs 37,972 crore to improve railway infrastructure in Jharkhand since 2014. “Apart from this, the Modi government has spent Rs 16,922.61 crore on national highway development in the state,” he added.

Ministry of Tribal Affairs gave ₹916.89 crore to Jharkhand

Vallabh said that the Ministry of Tribal Affairs has given ₹916.89 crore to Jharkhand. “In addition, the Jharkhand government has also been given special central assistance of ₹760.23 crore for the tribal scheme,” he pointed out.

“The Modi government has given loans of more than Rs 28,682.55 crore and GST compensation of Rs 9,374 crore to the Jharkhand government,” he said.

Corruption and inefficiency are hallmarks of  Hemant Soren government

The BJP leader said Rs 10,868.09 crore has been given for Jharkhand’s flagship vision Jal Jeevan Mission, but only Rs 5,775 crore has been utilised by the government so far.

“Apart from this, out of Rs 4,327.09 crore allocated under ‘Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan’, only Rs 2,307.33 crore has been spent,” he said.

“The Modi government has allocated Rs 1.05 lakh crore under special assistance to states for capital investment. The Hemant Soren government did not even apply for the ‘Development of Iconic Tourist Centres’, though a budget of Rs 1,000 crore was allocated for it,” he said.

“The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) government has not fully utilised the amount allocated by the Central government for several schemes. For example, under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, the Central government allocated Rs 85.7 crore to Jharkhand, but the JMM government used only Rs 48 crore from this amount,” he signed off.
