Jamai Tola: Giriraj Singh accuses Hemant Govt of undermining Jharkhand’s identity

THE JHARKHAND STORY NETWORK

Ranchi, June 25: In a scathing critique of the Hemant Soren-led government, Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh on Tuesday claimed that Jharkhand was being turned into a “Jamai Tola” (a village dominated by in-laws), alleging that the state’s identity was under threat due to unchecked infiltration and dynastic politics.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP’s state headquarters, Singh accused the Congress party of historical and ongoing threats to democracy, drawing parallels between the Emergency imposed in 1975 and the current political situation in Jharkhand.

Emergency Recalled: “Democracy and Dynasty Cannot Coexist”

Marking the anniversary of the Emergency, Singh criticised the Congress party for what he termed an attempt to “kill democracy” 50 years ago under then prime minister Indira Gandhi. He urged the party to hold public apology meetings across the country on 25 June to atone for its actions during that period.

“Why was the Emergency imposed in the world’s largest democracy? It was not for the nation’s interest, but to safeguard a single leader,” he said. “Indira Gandhi was a product of a dynasty, and democracy and dynasty cannot complement each other.”

He cited the 1971 election fraud case filed by Raj Narayan against Gandhi and the Allahabad High Court’s 1975 verdict as the catalyst for the imposition of the Emergency. He accused the then prime minister of displaying a “dictatorial attitude” and using presidential authority to clamp down on opposition voices.

Warning Over Jharkhand: “More Dangerous Than Emergency”

Shifting focus to Jharkhand, Singh alleged that the state was “sitting on a heap of gunpowder” due to what he described as the government’s soft stance on infiltration. “The tribal population is shrinking, and the state’s cultural identity is in danger. This is Barood Jamai Tola,” he declared.

He further criticised the state government for failing to implement the PESA Act, a law designed to protect tribal rights over land, water and forest. “Only if tribal communities survive will they be in a position to lead,” he said.

Call to Youth: “Awaken to Protect the State”

Urging the state’s youth to rise above political loyalties, Singh said: “The youth of Jharkhand must now think beyond party lines and act to preserve their heritage and identity.”

He also accused the state government of playing a “game more dangerous than the Emergency” by allegedly protecting infiltrators for political gain.

Mock Parliaments and Public Awareness

Singh noted that the BJP was organising mock parliaments across the country to educate the younger generation about the Emergency and its impact. He also commented that Rahul Gandhi should “read history before appealing to save the Constitution.”

Present at the press conference were BJP district president Varun Sahu, state media in-charge Shiv Pujan Pathak, spokesperson Ajay Sah, and senior leader Laxman Singh.
