Jamshedpur intensifies drive against traffic congestion

Jamshedpur, June 15: In a determined effort to tackle growing traffic congestion in Jamshedpur, the district administration and police have intensified their anti-encroachment and traffic management drive. City SP Lalit Meena on Monday conducted on-ground inspections at several key traffic bottlenecks to assess the situation and monitor traffic flow.

During the inspection, Meena visited congestion-prone locations, including Sakchi Roundabout, Basant Talkies Chowk, the Sagar Hotel stretch, and key points in Golmuri, where indiscriminate roadside parking often leads to traffic snarls.

The City SP interacted with vehicle owners, shopkeepers and commuters, urging them to avoid parking vehicles on roads and public thoroughfares. He stressed the importance of public cooperation in improving traffic conditions across the city.

Awareness First, Enforcement Next

Meena said the administration is currently focusing on creating awareness about traffic discipline among residents. However, he warned that strict action would be taken against violators if traffic rules continue to be ignored despite repeated warnings.

According to officials, the issue of increasing traffic pressure and recurring congestion was discussed in detail during a recent Disha Committee meeting. Following directions from the Deputy Commissioner, authorities launched a comprehensive campaign aimed at making Jamshedpur more traffic-friendly.

Action Against Illegal Parking and Encroachments

The ongoing drive includes checks on modified vehicles, action against vehicles using illegal black films, removal of roadside encroachments, enforcement against illegal parking and stricter implementation of traffic regulations.

The Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) also participated in the operation. During the drive, officials fined an auto-rickshaw driver for improper roadside parking, reinforcing the administration’s zero-tolerance approach toward traffic violations.

Positive Impact Visible in Sakchi

Officials said the campaign has already started yielding positive results, particularly in Sakchi, where roads that regularly witnessed long traffic queues are now experiencing comparatively smoother vehicular movement.

The administration plans to expand the drive further in the coming days to curb illegal parking, improve road discipline and ensure safer and more efficient movement for commuters across the city.
