Jamshedpur police bust bike theft racket, 2 arrested

Jamshedpur, May 26: Sakchi police have busted a motorcycle theft racket in Jamshedpur and arrested two accused involved in stealing and selling bikes after tampering with their identities. Police recovered five stolen motorcycles during the operation.

The accused allegedly changed the number plates and erased engine and chassis numbers before selling the bikes in the market.

Motorcycle Theft Near Karim City College Triggered Probe

The case came to light after a motorcycle was stolen near Karim City College on May 20. Following the registration of an FIR at Sakchi police station, police launched an investigation using CCTV footage, technical surveillance and intelligence inputs.

Raids Led to Arrest of Two Accused

A special police team first arrested Shamshad Alam during raids conducted under the direction of senior officials. During interrogation, he revealed the role of his associate Arun Mukherjee, who was later arrested.

Police said both accused confessed to stealing motorcycles from different parts of the city, including Sakchi. Based on their disclosures, police recovered five stolen motorcycles, including Hero Splendor, Passion Pro and Super Splendor models.

Police Continue Search for Other Gang Members

The arrested accused were identified as 23-year-old Shamshad Alam, a resident of Azadnagar, and Arun Mukherjee of Samta Nagar in Mango.

The raid was led by Sakchi police station in-charge Gopal Krishna Yadav. Police said further investigation is underway to identify other members of the racket.
