Daltonganj, October 2: SDPO Sadar Latehar Sandip Kumar Gupta marked Gandhi Jayanti by spending time with elderly residents of an old age home in Latehar town, sharing moments of warmth and affection with those living there.

Gupta visited the Old Age Home and met all eight inmates, including three women aged between 55 and 60. He also distributed sarees, dhotis, sweets and fruits among the residents.

Abandoned Parents Find a Moment of Care

Old Age Home caretaker Sushant Sahay said some of the residents had been abandoned by their sons and were left to fend for themselves.

Sahay said a few of the inmates had no children, while others had been separated from their families. He added that Gupta was deeply moved after meeting the elderly residents and hearing about their circumstances.

The inmates were reportedly unaware that anyone would visit them on Gandhi Jayanti. Gupta brought clothes and sweets for them and spent time interacting with the residents.

Clothes and Essentials Distributed

The police officer distributed sarees to the women and dhotis to the male residents. He also provided five additional dhotis for use at the old age home.

The caretaker highlighted the challenges involved in caring for some residents. He said one male inmate suffers from a condition in which he sometimes urinates and defecates in his clothes unconsciously, requiring the staff to bathe him and provide clean clothes.

The Old Age Home is run by the NGO Jharkhand Swabhiman.
