Jamshedpur student brings pistol, live rounds to college; police launch probe

Jamshedpur, June 25: A Class XII student allegedly brought a country-made pistol and live ammunition to Shyama Prasad Inter College in Parsudih, triggering panic and prompting a police investigation after a video of the incident surfaced on social media.

Although the incident reportedly took place on June 19, it came to light after a video showing the student displaying the firearm inside a classroom went viral.

Video sparks disciplinary action

According to reports, the Science stream student was seen taking the pistol out of his bag and showing it to classmates during class hours. Another student recorded the incident on a mobile phone, and the footage later circulated widely on social media.

College principal S.C. Mahato said a preliminary inquiry confirmed that the video was recorded on the campus.

The college has initiated disciplinary proceedings against the student, including steps to expel him. The involvement of two other students seen in the video is also being examined.

During questioning, the student reportedly admitted that he had brought the weapon to college to project influence and assert dominance among his peers following a recent dispute and physical altercation involving students. He also claimed that the firearm had been given to him by an associate.

Police seek details from college

Following the circulation of the video, Parsudih police launched an investigation.

Station House Officer Avinash Kumar said the probe is based on the viral video. Police have sought detailed information from the college administration and are working to identify all students seen in the footage before taking appropriate legal action.

The incident has raised concerns among parents and residents over security arrangements at educational institutions, with many calling for stricter monitoring to prevent such incidents.
