Jamshedpur youth among accused in Kairav Gandhi abduction case

Jamshedpur, January 29: In a major breakthrough in the abduction case of city-based industrialist’s son Kairav Gandhi, police have arrested multiple accused following simultaneous raids in Bihar’s Aurangabad, Nalanda and Gaya districts. A youth from Jamshedpur has also been taken into custody for his alleged role in the crime.

The arrests have revealed critical details of the conspiracy behind the high-profile kidnapping.

Conspiracy Hatched in Jamshedpur

Investigators said the abduction was meticulously planned in Jamshedpur. The accused allegedly conducted detailed surveillance of Kairav Gandhi’s daily routine, movements and security arrangements before executing the kidnapping from the Kadma–Sonari Link Road area.

To evade detection, the kidnappers used two separate vehicles immediately after the abduction—one heading towards Aurangabad and the other towards Gaya and Nalanda. The strategy was intended to confuse investigators and delay tracking efforts.

However, police teams kept both vehicles under constant technical and physical surveillance, preventing the suspects from escaping.

Victim Held in Bihar, Rescued Unharmed

Police confirmed that after the abduction, Kairav Gandhi—son of industrialist Devang Gandhi—was held at a concealed location in Bihar.

The gang was allegedly preparing to demand a hefty ransom, but sustained pressure from law enforcement disrupted their plans. On January 27, Gandhi was rescued unharmed in a discreet, well-coordinated operation and safely reunited with his family.

Coordinated raids were carried out across Aurangabad, Nalanda and Gaya districts, leaving the accused with no opportunity to flee. During the operation, police recovered two pistols, multiple mobile phones, SIM cards and the two vehicles used in the kidnapping.

All seized materials have been sent for forensic examination.

Role of Jamshedpur Youth Under Scanner

The arrest of a Jamshedpur-based youth has drawn particular attention. Police said he allegedly provided key inputs on the victim’s routine, helped arrange vehicles, shared information on safe routes and acted as a local contact for the gang.

Authorities are now probing whether he has links to an organised crime network operating across state borders.

Officials credited technical surveillance—including mobile location tracking, call detail records and CCTV footage—for cracking the case. Police indicated that further arrests cannot be ruled out as the investigation progresses.

The seamless coordination between Jharkhand and Bihar police has been widely praised. Officials said the swift and strategic response not only solved the kidnapping case but also prevented the crime from escalating into a larger ransom operation.
