Jamshedpur, September 25: A late-night burglary at a jewellery shop in Golmuri Main Market has sparked anger among traders and renewed concerns over police patrolling and security arrangements in Jamshedpur’s commercial areas.
Unidentified thieves allegedly broke into Arati Jewellers after cutting through the shop’s shutter ventilator and fled with gold and silver jewellery worth lakhs of rupees and cash.
Shop owner Pranav Roy said the burglary came to light when the shop was opened as usual on Friday morning.
The premises were found ransacked, with goods scattered around and the shutter cut open. The thieves allegedly took jewellery kept in the safe and on the counters.
Golmuri police reached the spot after being informed and launched an investigation. CCTV footage from the area is being examined to identify the suspects and trace their movements and possible escape route.
Back-to-back crimes raise security concerns
The burglary has triggered particular concern among local traders as it occurred within 24 hours of the armed robbery at the Canara Bank branch in Golmuri.
The two incidents in quick succession have intensified concerns over security in the busy commercial area and prompted traders to demand stronger police presence and regular patrolling.
Traders march against administration
In protest against the burglary, Golmuri Bazaar Samiti president Shankar Agarwal, along with members of the local business community, marched against the administration.
The traders expressed concern over the security situation and demanded intensified police patrolling and the immediate arrest of those involved.
The business community has also announced a Golmuri market bandh on Saturday in protest against the burglary.
Traders said the back-to-back incidents had created a sense of insecurity among shopkeepers and called for stronger security arrangements in and around the market.
