Jamshedpur, May 9: Jharkhand is likely to witness a prolonged spell of unstable weather, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across the state from May 9 to May 15.
According to the latest weather bulletin, districts in Central Jharkhand — including Hazaribagh, Bokaro, Ramgarh, Ranchi, Koderma, Giridih, Dhanbad and Khunti — are expected to experience intensified weather activity on May 9.
The IMD said isolated thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph are also likely in several other parts of the state.

Thunderstorm, lightning alerts across Jharkhand
From May 10 onwards, similar weather conditions are expected to continue across most districts, with thunderstorm and lightning alerts remaining in force through the week.
However, north-western parts of Jharkhand may witness relatively milder conditions on May 11 and again between May 14 and May 15, the forecast said.

Meteorologists attributed the changing weather pattern to an upper air cyclonic circulation over East Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas at around 1.5 km above mean sea level.
A trough extending from East Rajasthan to East Jharkhand through Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh is also influencing weather conditions over the region.
These systems are expected to cause moisture inflow and atmospheric instability, triggering widespread convective activity across Jharkhand.
Advisory for residents
The weather department has advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorm activity, avoid open spaces during lightning strikes and take necessary precautions against strong winds and sudden weather changes.
People have also been urged to follow local weather updates and advisories issued by the administration.
