Ranchi, Nov. 22: Chief Minister Hemant Soren today said that the Vidhan Sabha is the largest panchayat of the state.

“We have to save it at all costs from disintegration and loss,” he said and added that its roots have to be strengthened further.

The chief minister was speaking at the 23rd-anniversary celebration of the Jharkhand Assembly held in the Jharkhand Assembly complex. Governor CP Radhakrishnan, the chief guest on the occasion, along with Speaker Rabindranath Mahto was also present.

The chief minister said that the party and the opposition have an important role in ensuring that a panchayat is conducted properly in the Mahapanchayat.

He said a Mahapanchayat is organized not only for the common people but also for the water, forests and land of this state. “Policies are made from here. There are discussions for common people as well as animals. From this, it can be estimated what its importance is. MLAs play an important role in this Mahapanchayat. Thousands and lakhs of people send their representatives with hope and expectation,” he pointed out.

Calling upon the MLAs to perform their duties, the chief minister said that the country has entered the 75th year of Independence and Jharkhand has entered the 23rd year of separate statehood. “In such a situation, if we look at the democracy during the time of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, there have been many changes. What did we lose and what did we gain in this sequence? This also has to be seen,” he said.

The outstanding personnel of the Legislative Assembly, the brave police personnel and soldiers of Jharkhand state who were martyred on the country’s border and in the Naxal campaign and received gallantry medals during peacetime, the players of Jharkhand state, the topper students of 10th and 12th and other educational institutions of Jharkhand state were felicitated on the occasion.

The Governor, Assembly Speaker and Chief Minister honoured the President’s Medal awardees and the scientists of Jharkhand state involved in Mission Chandrayaan-3 by giving them shawls and citations for their valuable contribution in social fields.
