Dhanbad, February 15: Over 1576 contractual Multi-Purpose Workers (MPWs) of the state will sit on hunger strike at the headquarters of their respective district on February 19 for regularisation of their job.

Mass Drugs Administration campaign

Rolling out the agitational programme, Sujit Kumar, vice-president of the Jharkhand MPW Association, said that from February 15 to 18, all MPWs would work (supervising the Mass Drugs Administration campaign) under the protest wearing a board in the neck.

“On February 19, we will sit on a day-long hunger strike, and the next day, on February 20, hand over a memorandum to our respective district’s civil surgeon. If our demand is not fulfilled, we will gherao the government offices in Ranchi on February 21,” said Sujit Kumar.

Agitation of MPWs is set to impact the ongoing Mass Drugs Administration campaign in the state.

MPWs have been working on a contractual basis since 2008. “It is surprising that Guruji (Shibu Soren) gave us an appointment letter in 2008. During the assembly election in 2019 and after forming the government, former chief minister Hemant Soren assured us to regularise our job whenever he visited any district. But even after 16 years, we are still contractual staff,” said vice-president Sujit Kumar.

Now, MPWs have decided to fight to the finish to get regularised. While State President Pawan Kumar and General Secretary Mangal Hembram are spearheading the agitation from Ranchi, East Singhbhum (Jamshedpur) district president Barun Kumar Pal, Deoghar district President Ajay Kumar Saw and Secretary Mukesh Kumar president, secretary of other districts have massive arrangements for agitation in their respective district.
