Daltonganj, January 31: The establishment day of the Daltonganj railway station was observed today at a simple but impressive ceremony on the platform. The Daltonganj railway station comes under the East Central Railway (ECR) of the Dhanbad division.
The Daltonganj railway station came into existence on January 31, 1929. The station earned its name from Irishman Edward Tuite Dalton, the Commissioner of Chhotanagpur in 1861.
This railway station has seen steam, diesel, and now electric engines.
There was a celebration here when, for the first time, the Ranchi-Delhi Rajdhani express train had its maiden stoppage.
Bands of musicians played soulful songs on this occasion, and the business community garlanded the engine crew of this Rajdhani Express train.

Daltonganj railway station superintendent Umesh Kumar said, “It’s a great day for all of us to celebrate the foundation day of this Daltonganj railway station.”
Umesh Kumar said, “We take care of our passengers. We care for our Laal Coolies, who are like our railway family. Laal Coolies enjoy railway pass for a second class journey like many of us.”
“This railway station is 95 years old today. This railway station is growing young. It has two FoBs (foot overbridge). Two lifts are coming up. On average, 120 trains, including goods trains, make ferry a day, reminded Umesh Kumar.
The Daltonganj railway station has a coach indication box and train indication board. There is now a big circulation area at the Daltonganj railway station where passengers park their vehicles.
This railway station maintains saaf safai. This railway station has one more distinction.
Every morning, barring Sundays and holidays, young boys and girls who come by train to attend coaching centres here in the town of Daltonganj keep the platforms of this railway station abuzz with youthful activities, said Umesh Kumar.
Umesh Kumar said a few of these young boys and girls do nasty things with the railway property, like banging upon the door of the second-class waiting room or deliberately leaving water taps open, leading to the wastage of the precious water.
There was a time here when ghanti was rung to announce the arrival and departure of the trains. This station has a digital PA system to benefit the travelling passengers.
A railway station flourishes with the flow of the passengers, and this Daltonganj has a daily ferrying of 5000 passengers.
The railway officials had invited the MP Vishnu Dayal Ram and the local MLA Alok Chourasia, but none could grace this occasion. Senior BJP leaders Vijay Ojha, Sheo Kumar Mishra, Somesh Singh and others were present.
RPF inspector-in-charge Banarasi Yadav, TI Anil Kr Tiwary, Vikas Kr and others were present in this ceremony.
