Jamshedpur, April 24: Too many aspirants are vying for getting a JMM ticket for the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat as the party is finding it hard to get a suitable candidate here.
Yearning for getting the ticket is increasingly on the rise among the aspirants while the party leadership’s anxiety to announce the candidate’s name is also shooting up.
Given the fact that the BJP has already announced the sitting MP, Vidyut Baran Mahto as its candidate for the Jamshedpur LS seat, the JMM leadership is finding itself in a situation like beating around the bush, apparently in desperation.
Six names making rounds
The names that are going the rounds for a probable candidate for the JMM for the Jamshedpur LS seat include Ashtik Mahto, Sunil Mahto, Baharagora legislator Samir Mohanty, JMM spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya and former deputy chief minister Sudhir Mahto’s daughter Sneha Mahto.
The party is even eying on a former JMM legislator from Baharagora Kunal Sarangi who is presently in the BJP.

Significantly, the JMM is reportedly preferably wanting to field a Mahto candidate as the voters’ percentage from the community stands at 22 next to the tribal voters of 28 per cent in the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat which is a general category constituency.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, the Mahagathbandhan had fielded the JMM leader and present chief minister Champai Soren who was defeated by the BJP candidate by a huge margin. While Vidyut Baran Mahto had got 59.4 per cent of the vote share, Champai Soren had to remain satisfied with just 33 per cent of the vote share.
Nomination begins on April 29
Nomination for the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat is scheduled to begin on April 29 and as the date of the commencement of nomination comes closer, the anxiety of the JMM leadership is going up and those who count are referring to remain in incommunicado mode.
JMM’s East Singhbhum district committee president and Ghatsila MLA Ramdas Soren who is believed to have sent a list of potential candidates for the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat did not receive the call made by The Jharkhand Story repeatedly to get a comment on the present situation.
