Ranchi, Sept 19: Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Anil Chauhan and Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth on Friday attended the inauguration ceremony of the “East Tech Symposium 2025” (Defence Expo) at the Veer Tana Bhagat Indoor Stadium, Khelgaon, Ranchi.
The event, organised by the Ministry of Defence, brought together defence experts, industrial houses, technical institutions, and MSMEs from across the country.
CM Highlights Potential of Jharkhand in Defence Sector
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Hemant Soren described the day as historic for Jharkhand, noting that the symposium adds a new dimension to the defence sector. He expressed confidence that the objectives of the event would be successfully achieved.

“Jharkhand has contributed immensely to the country. The state also holds vast potential for the expansion of industries linked to the defence sector. Our government is committed to extending full cooperation to the Centre to make India self-reliant in defence,” the Chief Minister said.

He pointed out that Jharkhand is rich in raw materials used in defence manufacturing, including uranium, and has long been home to major industrial institutions.
Soren cited the Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC) in Ranchi, which has played a crucial role in the production of satellite and nuclear components. Expressing concern over its present condition, he said it was painful to see such a significant institution not performing up to expectations.
Call for Centre-State Collaboration
The Chief Minister stressed the need for closer coordination between the Centre and the state to strengthen industries.
“By working together, new dimensions can be added to defence-linked industries. It is a matter of pride that the Chief of Defence Staff and other senior defence officials are here with us today. Their initiatives in the MSME sector are also a positive step. The state government assures full support to the defence sector,” Soren added.

Defence Expo Showcases Innovation
Following the inaugural session, Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Chief Minister Hemant Soren, CDS General Anil Chauhan, and Union MoS Defence Sanjay Seth, along with senior defence ministry officials, toured the Defence Expo.
The exhibition featured defence experts, industrial houses, technical institutions, and representatives from small and medium enterprises from across the country.

The event was attended by Jharkhand Chief Secretary Alka Tiwari, Eastern Command Chief Lt. General Ramchandra Tiwari, Eastern Command Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief Surat Singh, senior officials of the Ministry of Defence, and other prominent guests.
