Daltonganj, September 19: A Kolkata-bound lady passenger created a flutter at the Daltonganj railway station under Dhanbad division of the East Central Railway (ECR) recently when she insisted on carrying her pet dog with her.

Railway rules do permit a dog’s train journey, but with riders. It’s the pet dog is to be taken in an AC first class coupe or first class AC cabin with proper booking.

A pet dog can never be taken in either second-class AC or third-class AC in any long-distance train.

Local and shuttle trains are disallowed for any pet animal to travel with the person owning it.

There is a provision of a dog box where the dog’s diet, water and other things of comfort are made available.

Again, the dog that is to travel by train has to have a certificate of proper immunisation like that of anti-rabies vaccination etc, from a registered veterinary doctor.

Daltonganj railway station Superintendent Umesh Kumar said that the lady passenger had a ticket for first class AC along with a certificate of immunisation of her pet dog, which was booked, and was gracefully seen off at the railway station for Kolkata.
