JAMSHEDPUR, May 30: Manipal Tata Medical College (MTMC), Jamshedpur, is set to mark a historic milestone with its first-ever convocation ceremony on June 1, celebrating the graduation of the institution’s inaugural MBBS batch.

The ceremony will be held at 11:30 am at the MTMC campus in Baridih, where 133 students from the 2020-21 MBBS batch will receive their medical degrees and formally enter the medical profession.
Governor Santosh Gangwar to Be Chief Guest
Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar will attend the event as the chief guest and deliver the convocation address.

The ceremony will also be attended by Irfan Ansari, Jharkhand Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare, and Vijay Kumar, Senior Advisor in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
Senior officials from the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Tata Steel, members of the MTMC Governing Council, faculty members, healthcare professionals, parents and other distinguished guests are also expected to participate.

A Milestone for Medical Education in Eastern India
Established in 2020 through a collaboration between MAHE and Tata Steel, MTMC is regarded as India’s first private-private partnership model in medical education.
The institution was founded with the objective of expanding access to quality medical education while strengthening healthcare services in underserved regions of the country.
Over the past six years, MTMC has emerged as a prominent centre for medical and allied health sciences education. The institution currently caters to more than 1,286 students enrolled in undergraduate, postgraduate and allied health programmes.
Institution Leaders Highlight Significance of Event
Brig. (Dr.) H.C. Bandhu, Dean of MTMC, described the graduation of the first MBBS batch as a proud and emotional moment for the institution.
He said the achievement reflects the strength of MTMC’s academic ecosystem, the dedication of its faculty and the vision behind the MAHE-Tata Steel partnership.
Somnath Das, Group President – Special Projects, Manipal Education and Medical Group (MEMG) and Officer on Special Duty to MAHE, said the institution demonstrates how purposeful partnerships can help address challenges in education and healthcare while creating opportunities for future generations.
D.B. Sundara Ramam, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel, said the vision behind MTMC extended beyond establishing a medical college and focused on strengthening healthcare infrastructure, generating opportunities and contributing to the long-term development of Jharkhand and eastern India.
With the graduation of its first MBBS batch, MTMC sees the occasion as the beginning of a new chapter in its journey to produce skilled, compassionate and socially responsible healthcare professionals capable of meeting the country’s evolving healthcare needs.
