Dhanbad, Dec 26: Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar on Friday called upon students to take personal responsibility for educating at least one child from society.
Addressing the convocation ceremony of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU), Dhanbad, at the Town Hall as the chief guest, the Governor urged students to understand their role and responsibility towards society.

He said if educated youth resolve to educate even one child each, the roots of illiteracy, poverty and inequality would gradually weaken.

Degrees Must Go Beyond Certificates
Emphasising the broader purpose of education, the Governor said students should not limit themselves to merely obtaining degrees. Instead, they should focus on research and innovation, which can provide new direction to both individuals and the nation.
“The aim of education is not only personal advancement but also to serve as a guiding force for society and the country,” he said, urging students to use their knowledge and skills to promote morality and honesty.
Convocation Celebrates Academic Achievement
The Governor described convocation as a “golden day” in the lives of students, marking the completion of their education after years of hard work and challenges.
On the occasion, he awarded degrees to 164 PhD scholars and gold medallists of the university. BBMKU Vice-Chancellor Dr Ram Kumar and other senior university officials were present at the ceremony.
Vice-Chancellor Appointments and University Reforms
Speaking to the media later, Governor Gangwar said that the post of vice-chancellor is currently vacant in several universities, but the appointment process is underway and is expected to be completed by next month.
He expressed confidence that issues facing the state’s universities would be addressed in the coming days.

Focus on Regular Academic Sessions and Enrolment
The Governor, who also serves as the Chancellor of state universities, said efforts are being made to regularise academic sessions across all institutions and ensure smooth functioning.
Acknowledging the limited higher education opportunities in Jharkhand, he noted that fewer students are currently enrolling in universities and said steps are being taken to attract more students towards higher education.
