SUBHASH MISHRA

Dhanbad, July 19: The Jharkhand government has issued a final ultimatum to 22 JPSC-passed specialist doctors and medical officers, who have been absconding, to report and join at their assigned postings.

These absconding doctors have been asked to report at the Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Department office at Nepal House, Ranchi, on July 22 and 23 with all required documents.

Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Ajoy Kumar Singh issued the official notification on Saturday, stating that this is the last opportunity for these medical officers to join government service.

As per notification, 22 medical officers were posted at health centres of different districts after clearance from the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) in 2020 and 2023.

Doctors Failed to Join or Abandoned Postings

While some of the doctors never joined their assigned posts, others joined briefly but failed to serve at their designated health centres.

The Health Department had earlier given these officers a chance to submit clarifications regarding their absence during a hearing held on May 30, 2025.

Those who appeared with explanations have now been directed to report again with proper documentation to formalise their joining.

Private Sector Preferred Over Rural Postings

Sources in the department suggest that the reluctance to join stems from challenging service conditions and postings in remote locations. Many of the absconding doctors reportedly opted for private practice instead of accepting their government assignments.

Nayeemuddin, and Dr Ramkrishna Jha (Pakur).

The department has made it clear that failure to comply with this final notice could lead to strict disciplinary action and possible cancellation of appointments.
