Ranchi, June 14: Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperative Minister Badal Patralekh today said that loans up to Rs 2 lakh of farmers will be waived.

“For this, he has asked all the banks to submit proposals. Loans from Rs 50,000 to Rs 2 lakh taken by farmers till March 31 2020 will be waived through one-time settlement. For this, proposals have been invited from all the banks,” he said after holding a meeting with the officials of the State Level Bankers Committee at Nepal House.

Loans up to Rs 50K of 4.73 lakh farmers waived

The minister told in the meeting that as per its promise, the state government has given relief to such farmers who were worried due to bank loans. “Loans up to Rs 50,000 of more than 4.73 lakh farmers of the state have been waived. Under the scheme, an amount of more than Rs 1900 crore has been given by the government to the banks,” he pointed out.

Notably, in 2021-22, the government had announced to waive loans up to Rs 50,000 to give relief to the farmers. As per its promise, the government has executed all the applications whose KYC has been done.

Badal has directed the officials of all the banks to send a proposal to the state government for closing the accounts of those farmers, which have become NPA so that the farmers can be made debt-free.
