Dhanbad, February 12: On Monday, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) investigation wing of Jamshedpur assessed GST papers in the house and offices of industrialist Amitesh Sahay and his business partner Shyam Sharma.
Industrialist Amitesh Sahay is a close friend of former chief minister Hemant Soren.
GST begins probe at 7 am
The Jamshedpur GST investigation team reached Dhanbad at 7 am and continued screening the GST payment papers until around 1.30 pm. The team conducted an assessment at the house of Amitesh Sahay, based in Chiragora under the Sadar police station, and simultaneously at his business partner’s JAI TMT Barbadda and Govindpur-based factory.

The GST team left for Jamshedpur in the afternoon and did not talk with media persons about the outcome of the assessment and seizure of papers regarding GST default.

Sahay is JMM treasurer
Sahay also happens to be treasurer of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). He was the chief organiser of the JMM’s 56th Foundation Day held at the Golf Ground of Dhanbad, attended by Chief Minister Champai Soren on February 4.
Amitesh Sahay, president of the Jharkhand Industrialists and Traders Association (JITA), is an established coal trader and runs several factories in partnership. His childhood friendship with former chief minister Hemant Soren blossomed in full swing after the latter became JMM’s executive president and became active in politics.
