Ranchi, April 3: The Jharkhand High Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the 10-hour power cuts in Ranchi due to processions during festivals.
A bench of Chief Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao and Justice Deepak Roshan has sought a response from the state government and the electricity department.
The court has asked both parties to clarify under which rule power is being cut for 10 hours during processions. It has also sought information on what alternative measures are taken to alleviate the inconvenience caused to the public due to power cuts.

The court has directed that a response be submitted on all these points by April 9.
Notably, power supply is cut during the Sarhul and Ram Navami processions as a security measure. Electricity is restored only after the processions return.
On April 1, power was cut for over 10 hours during the Sarhul procession. A similar power cut has been announced for the Ram Navami procession on April 6.
