Jamshedpur, April 22: Jharkhand is continuing to face intense summer heat, with several districts recording temperatures above 42–43°C. However, weather conditions are expected to change gradually later this week.
Severe heat grips several districts
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ranchi and Daltonganj recorded the highest temperature at 43.4°C, followed by Jamshedpur and Chaibasa at 42.4°C. Ranchi registered a maximum of 38.6°C, about 1.6°C above normal.

Night temperatures remained stable across the state. Gumla was the coolest at 17.7°C, while most areas recorded minimum temperatures between 22°C and 26°C. Rainfall activity was negligible, with only 0.2 mm recorded in Jamshedpur over the past 24 hours.
“The current spell of clear skies and dry weather is likely to continue till April 23, keeping daytime temperatures high,” an IMD official said.
Rain, thunderstorms expected from April 24
A shift in weather is expected due to an upper air cyclonic circulation over north Chhattisgarh and a trough extending from Bihar to the Northeast. From April 24, parts of eastern Jharkhand may see partly cloudy skies with light rain or thunderstorms at isolated places.
This weather activity is likely to expand to northeastern, southern, and central Jharkhand between April 25 and 27, offering some relief from the ongoing heatwave. “Thunderstorm activity will be scattered, but it may help reduce temperatures slightly in affected areas,” the official added.
For now, residents should prepare for two more days of high temperatures before pre-monsoon activity begins.
