Jamshedpur, Jan 20: Most of the tumours are curable, but some tumours may lead to risks as they cause serious implications on health and may even lead to emergency.

Recently a patient – Parween Begum, resident of Mango in Jamshedpur got treated with kidney cancer at the Tamolia-based Brahmananda Narayana Multispecialty Hospital, Jamshedpur (BNMH).

A few days back 52 52-year-old Parween Begum presented at BNMH with a complaint of stomach ache for last one year.

Previously also she underwent treatment for the same by multiple local doctors including physicians and surgeons but was not relieved of his symptoms.

When she reported at BNMH Tamolia in Surgical Oncology OPD, she was advised some tests by Dr Ashish Kumar (Senior Consultant – Surgical Oncology).

The investigation showed that she had tumour measuring 4-5 cm at the lower pore of her left kidney which was most likely cancerous.

Operated by Dr Ashish Kumar

The rapid growth of this tumour may involve damage of other underlying organs. After all the required anaesthetic checkups were done she was planned for Laparoscopic radical nephrectomy.

For the first time in Jamshedpur, this procedure was  planned on kidney cancer, said Dr Ashish Kumar

The patient was operated by experienced, Dr. Ashish Kumar (Senior Consultant – Surgical Oncology) and a team of skilled anesthesiologists under the guidance of Dr Umesh Prasad.

Laparoscopic radical Nephrectomy surgery was done and the whole kidney along with the tumour was excised.

Four-hour surgery

The surgery took four hours and the left kidney was completely excised in whole. Post-operation Parween Begum recovered well.

Speaking about the entire process Dr. Ashish Kumar, said that the patient can take food after the next day of surgery.

This surgery has a greater advantage than traditional open surgery because of less pain, less blood loss, short length of stay and faster recovery.

Facility director of the hospital Vinit Raj said, “Our sate-of-the-art facility is equipped with the latest diagnostic and therapeutic technologies to perform advanced surgery with accurate and effective results to our patients. We are committed to deliver compassionate, patient-centred care with a focus on excellence, safety and innovation.”
