Dhanbad, Jan 1: The state health department has reshuffled assistant professors of three medical colleges, effective from January 1, to streamline medical education.

Dr Jakka Sriniwas Rao, assistant professor of the FMT department, Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad, has been transferred to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) Jamshedpur.

Dr Sunil Kumar, assistant professor of the orthopaedics department, Phulo Jhano Medical College Hospital (PJMCH) Dumka, has been transferred to MGMMCH Jamshedpur. Another assistant professor of PJMCH Dumka, Dr Jayant Chakraborty, ENT department, has also been moved to SNMMCH Dhanbad.

Dr SS Dahanga, assistant professor of gynaecology and obstetrics, PJMCH Dumka was also transferred to SNMMCH Dhanbad. However, the health department cancelled his transfer in November on the request application.

A senior official of the state health department said that notification of these doctors’ transfers was issued on July 31, 2023, but their joining date had been fixed from January 1st, 2024.

Three new HoDs in SNMMCH Dhanbad

Meanwhile, SNMMCH Principal Dr Jyotiranjan Prasad has announced the head of the department (HoD) of three faculties. Dr Vinit Tigga has replaced Dr Jakka Sriniwas Rao as FMT HoD.

Dr Tigga has been serving the department since 2008 and discharging almost all responsibilities of post-mortem and medical-legal.

Following the retirement of Dr (Prof) AK Thakur of ENT and Dr (Prof) B C Banerjee of the pathology department on December 30, the principal has appointed assistant Prof Dr Rajkumar Prasad as HoD pathology.

In the ENT department, senior resident Dr Vijaya Bala Murmu took charge from Dr AK Thakur on December 30. But the principal said assistant professor, Dr Jayant Chakraborty, who has come from the Dumka Medical College, would be head of the ENT department.

Interestingly, the ENT department has professor rank teacher Dr ( Prof) Ashutosh Kumar (working on a contract basis), but he has been overlooked for the post of HoD. A similar situation appeared in the microbiology department last year. Senior resident Dr Sujit Tiwary was HoD. But when Dr (Professor) VK Singh joined on contract basis, he was made HoD, though financial power rested with Dr Tiwary,

A senior faculty member of SNMMCH said that Dr Ashutosh can’t be given charge of HoD as he belongs to Dumka Medical College and has been on deputation here.
