Ranchi/New Delhi, Feb 19: BJP MP from Godda Dr Nishikant Dubey took a swipe at Rahul Gandhi over the appointment of the new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC). Sharing Rahul Gandhi’s post on social media platform X, Dubey wrote, “The cat goes on a pilgrimage after eating a hundred rats.” He further criticized the Congress party, saying, “A party that has appointed ‘Ailcha, Belcha, and Chamcha’ as Election Commissioners throughout its history now talks about dignity—Oh God, what a terrible Kaliyug!”

Dubey’s remarks came after Rahul Gandhi accused the Modi government of violating Supreme Court orders in the selection of Gyanesh Kumar as the new CEC. In a meeting of the selection committee chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kumar was appointed to the top election post. However, the Congress party has raised strong objections to the process.

In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi alleged that the government ignored the Supreme Court’s directives by removing the Chief Justice of India from the selection committee. He stated that during the committee meeting, he submitted a dissent note to the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, emphasizing that a free and fair Election Commission requires an independent selection process, free from executive interference.

Rahul further claimed that the Modi government’s actions have raised concerns among millions of voters about the integrity of India’s electoral process. He stressed his responsibility, as Leader of the Opposition, to uphold the ideals of Babasaheb Ambedkar and the founding leaders by holding the government accountable.

Additionally, he criticized the timing of the appointment, calling it “insulting and improper” for the Prime Minister and Home Minister to make a midnight decision while the Supreme Court is set to hear a case challenging the selection process within the next 48 hours.

During the meeting of the committee to select the next Election Commissioner, I presented a dissent note to the PM and HM, that stated: The most fundamental aspect of an independent Election Commission free from executive interference is the process of choosing the Election… pic.twitter.com/JeL9WSfq3X
