Dhanbad, March 27: The three-day 13th Padmabai Rungta Memorial prize money open chess tournament will be held from March 29 to 31 at Sitaram Rungta Recreation Hall Town Club.

The West Singhbhum District Chess Association (WSDCA) is organising the tournament. SR Rugnta Group has sponsored the tournament. A total cash prize of Rs 21,000 will be distributed among winners and runners-up players, along with a  trophy.

The winner of the tournament will get a cash prize of Rs 6000 and the Padmabai Rungta Memorial Trophy.

WSDCA general secretary Basant Khandelwal said the tournament is open to players of all age groups. “On the basis of performance in this tournament, the top four players will be selected to represent the West Singhbhum district team in the Jharkhand State Senior Chess Championship.

“A Total of 120 participants, including rated different age groups players of the district, are likely to participate in this tournament. So far, 60 players have got entry. The tournament will be played in seven rounds,” said Khandelwal.

Hursh Sharma and Purushottam Saraf have been made coordinators of the tournament.
