Dhanbad, July 26: The third edition of the Bokaro District Yogasana Sport Championship commenced on Friday at Delhi Public School (DPS), Bokaro. The two-day championship aims to promote yoga as a discipline and a lifestyle among the youth.
The event was inaugurated by Jharkhand State Yogasana Sport Association (JSYSA) president Manoj Tiwari, who graced the occasion as the chief guest. State treasurer of the association and secretary of the Latehar district unit, Prashant Singh, attended as the guest of honour.

Speaking at the ceremony, Manoj Tiwari highlighted the significance of yoga in modern life. “Yoga is not merely exercise but a means to discover harmony within oneself, the world, and Mother Nature,” he said.

Emphasis on Discipline and Global Vision for Yogasana
Guest of honour Prashant Singh underlined the importance of Ashtanga Yoga in developing discipline among children. He also announced that the Yogasana World Cup is scheduled for March 2026, reinforcing the vision of including Yogasana as a discipline in the Olympic Games.
Dr. A. S. Gangwar, principal of DPS Bokaro and president of BDYSA, stressed that the championship is about more than competition—it is a celebration of yoga as a cultural heritage that continues to evolve. “It is our responsibility to uphold, practise, and promote yoga. Today, yoga is celebrated globally as India’s timeless gift to humanity,” he stated.

Competitions and Participation
On the opening day, traditional yoga events were held for boys and girls across three age groups—Under-9, Under-14 (Sub-Junior), and Under-18 (Junior).
The technical panel supervising the event includes Chandu Kumar, Pooja Singh, Amya Anshu, Abhijeet Patra, Sunita Kumari Mishra, Sheetal Kumari, Krishna Prasad Mahto, Jyotika Vishwakarma, and Ritika.
Approximately 350 yoga enthusiasts from various schools across Bokaro district are showcasing their traditional and artistic Yogasana skills in the championship.
