Dhanbad, Nov 27: Arup Kumar Das (49), an engineer at Adani ACC Cement Factory in Sindri, was found hanging near the water tank on the roof of his apartment building on Wednesday morning.
Das had been reported missing since Tuesday evening. His body was discovered hanging from a pipe connected to the water tank on the apartment roof.
Das joined the Adani ACC Cement Factory in Sindri nine months ago and resided in Flat No. 7 of the ‘A’ Type Apartments within the factory premises. Following his disappearance on Tuesday evening, his wife, Jhuma Rani Das, along with neighbours, searched the Sindri Township through the night.

Originally from Kolkata, Das was reportedly dealing with depression following the recent death of his elder brother, who was also an engineer. In a written complaint to the police, his wife mentioned his ongoing mental health struggles. Das leaves behind his wife, a son, and a daughter.
Sindri Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sanjay Kumar stated that preliminary evidence points to suicide. However, he emphasised that a conclusive determination would be made only after the post-mortem report and further investigation. The body has been sent to Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
Police are continuing their inquiries to determine the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
