Mangal Munda was injured in an accident on November 25 on the Khunti-Tamar Road and was referred to RIMS Ranchi on November 26 in critical condition.
Four-hour long successful surgery
Under the leadership of Dr Anand Prakash, the neurosurgery unit conducted a four-hour-long marathon surgery to stabilise Munda’s condition. Although his condition remained serious and he was placed on ventilation, the surgery was successful, offering hope for his survival.
The surgical team included Dr Saurabh Besra, Dr Vikash Kumar, Dr Rahul Mali, Dr Rashmi, Dr Tushar, Dr Alka (anaesthesia), and OT assistants Sunil and Vineeta, all under the guidance of Dr Anand Prakash.
Munda suffered a major brain injury, with blood clots on both sides of the brain due to the severe trauma from the accident, which required immediate surgery.
“Operation was ample and complex. However, we took the situation as a challenge, and after four hours of marathon operation, we succeeded. The blood clot was removed from the brain by operating on both sides,” said Dr Anand Prakash.
