SUBHASH MISHRA

Dhanbad, Jan 4: The All-India Transgender Conference has begun at the Wedding Well Banquet Hall in Nawagarh, Dhanbad, with the traditional ritual of Khichri Toul (Khichri weighing). Thousands of transgender individuals from across India and Nepal are participating in the event.

Jharkhand State Transgender President Chhamchham Devi stated that the nine-day convention, which commenced on January 2 and will conclude on January 10, will focus on discussing transgender rights, political participation, social responsibilities, and contributions to national welfare.

Participation from Across India and Nepal

Hundreds of transgender individuals have already arrived in Dhanbad to attend the initial sessions of the convention. Prominent attendees include Alavya Nayak from Siliguri, West Bengal; Seema Nayak from Indore, Madhya Pradesh; Babita Nayak and Jodhabai Nayak from Bokaro; Aruna Nayak from Ramgarh; and Jaki Nayak, Prema Nayak, and Chhotki Nayak from other districts.

Visitors are being welcomed with traditional dances and songs, adding a cultural touch to the event.

“Since the national convention is being held for the first time in Jharkhand, we are trying to make it a grand success so that members return with pleasant memories. Moreover, we are also trying to pass unanimous resolutions on national issues concerning transgender individuals,” said Chhamchham Devi.

Special Procession and Worship Events

Organisers have announced a special procession on January 7, where transgender members will march from the Nawadih conference venue to Shakti Mandir on Joraphatak Road to offer special prayers.

On the first day of the convention, January 2, participants performed rituals in memory of their ancestors, highlighting the importance of tradition and respect for their heritage.

Fostering Relationships and Addressing Issues

The conference holds special significance as it not only addresses pressing issues but also serves as a platform for building personal connections. Participants form familial relationships, such as adopting roles as mothers, sisters, and daughters within the community.

“During this convention, besides holding discussions on burning issues, participants also establish bonds with each other,” added the organizers.
