Jharkhand News: Beheaded body found along railway track in Adityapur

Jamshedpur, Jan 2: Mystery deepened on Friday after the beheaded body of a middle-aged man was found lying along the Adityapur–Gamharia railway section under Adityapur police station limits in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district.

Though the discovery of a mutilated body along a railway line often points towards an accident or suicide, police said several unusual factors have raised serious doubts in this case. The deceased was found partially naked, with his lower garment missing, while the severed head lay at a short distance from the body.

More significantly, police noted that the body did not bear multiple injury marks, which are normally seen in cases of train accidents or suicide by jumping in front of a train.

Police reach spot, body remains unidentified

The body was spotted in the forenoon, triggering panic in nearby areas. Local residents immediately informed the police, following which Adityapur thana officer-in-charge Binod Tirkey rushed to the spot.

Police attempted to identify the deceased with the help of onlookers after recovering the severed head, but no identification could be made.

“Finding mutilated bodies along railway tracks is not uncommon, but a semi-naked, beheaded body without other injury marks is highly unusual. If it were an accident or suicide, there would have been injuries all over the body,” Tirkey said.

He added that the murder angle cannot be ruled out, and the death remains shrouded in mystery.

Identification key to cracking the case

Another senior police officer said the case could move forward only after the deceased is identified, as it would help establish his background and last movements.

Body sent for postmortem

Police have recovered the body and sent it to Seraikela Sadar Hospital for a postmortem. Before the autopsy, the body will be kept in the morgue for 72 hours to facilitate identification.

Investigation is underway.
