Dhanbad, April 30: One died, and over 36 passengers were injured as a Bihar-bound Kolkata bus rammed into a truck on inter-state GT Road under Topchachi police station, around 27 km away from district headquarters, in the early morning of Tuesday.
Driver dies on spot
The driver of the bus, identified as Rajbeer, died on the spot while injured passengers were admitted at the Hospital of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College (SNMMCH).

A police official of Topchachi police station, Sanjay Kumar, said that the incident occurred at around 3 a.m. The sleeper bus was going to Nawada, Bihar, from Babughat, Kolkata.

Bus at high speed
The bus was reportedly at high speed, rammed into the truck from the rear, and got stuck in it. However, local people and police personnel rescued the injured passengers.
Police and National Highway Authority ambulances got all injured persons admitted at SNMMCH. The doctors of the medical college said most of the passengers had received head injuries but were out of danger.
The passengers alleged that the bus driver, identified as a resident of Hajipur, had begun running at high speed after Burdwan. Some of the passengers sleeping on sleeper seats fell on the bus surface.
