Hazaribag, March 3: With the BJP denying a ticket to its two-time MP from Hazaribag, people of this constituency welcomed this decision of the saffron party, terming Jayant Sinha, a non-political man.
The BJP has announced its candidature for eleven parliamentary seats in Jharkhand, including Hazaribag. The present MLA from Hazaribag Sadar, Manish Jaiswal, was given the ticket by the prestigious Hazaribag constituency.
No interest in local issues
Sources said Sinha, who won from Hazaribag in 2014 and 2019, didn’t show his interest in local issues, mainly what he referred to as ‘nali aur gali ki samasya’. He often said that it was not his duty to solve these issues but had many other important works of national importance.
Locals justify BJP decision
This is why when the news came that Jaiswal was selected as a candidate for the Hazaribag seat, local people considered the party’s decision correct. Why field Jayant again when he has nothing to do with Hazaribag?
“Even if he didn’t ever show his interest in solving our issues, then what is the use of voting for him,” asked septuagenarian Bisheswar Mehta of Matwari, a retired teacher.
Yashwant got a ticket for Jaiswal in 2014
Jaiswal, who got a ticket due to the support of Yashwant Sinha in 2014, kept scaling the ladder of popularity with every passing day with his easy availability, politeness and interest in solving local issues. This is why people from Hazaribag Sadar, the entire district, and Ramgarh used to come to him to solve their problems.
Anti-incumbency against Jayant: BJP media in-charge
Surprisingly, a press release issued by Jay Narayan Prasad, the media in charge of the party, welcomes Jaiswal’s candidature, claiming an anti-incumbency against Jayant Sinha in the constituency. Even the same office was sending press releases praising Jayant’s work as an MP here and predicting his victory in the election by a big margin.
A retired government officer, Ashish Prasad, said this shows how people change their loyalty if the chair is gone. “Jayant babu ne aadmi banaya hi nahi, khud ko sabse aklamand samjhna hi unki sabse badi bhul rhi (Jayant Babu did not earn people’s faith; his biggest mistake was to consider himself the most intelligent person), added he.
Prasad said Jayant kept visiting all those who were never his men. “He kept hiring those people at his office who were never loyal to him. Then who would pay for these mistakes,” he asked.
