Jamshedpur, Oct 23: The Jamshedpur district administration has ordered Blinkit to vacate its Bistupur outlet within 30 days following a heated confrontation between locals and store staff that has reignited public outrage over the company’s parking practices.

Tensions flared outside the outlet earlier this week after residents accused Blinkit employees of misbehaving with a woman who had complained about the persistent parking chaos caused by delivery bikes.

The dispute quickly escalated, drawing a crowd and prompting police intervention to prevent further violence.

Officials confirmed that the decision to shut the Bistupur dark store was taken after repeated complaints of traffic obstruction and disorder linked to the company’s operations. “Such outlets cannot operate at the cost of public convenience,” a senior administrative officer said.

The closure order follows similar unrest in Sonari, where a parking dispute outside another Blinkit store recently turned violent, leading to stone-pelting, property damage, and a late-night police crackdown.
Authorities have now issued fresh warnings to Blinkit and other quick-commerce firms, directing them to relocate from congested residential areas and ensure proper parking arrangements at all operating sites.
The administration is also drafting new citywide guidelines for hyperlocal delivery hubs to address growing concerns over traffic congestion and safety.
Residents say the Bistupur move was long overdue. “The outlet has been a daily nuisance — bikes everywhere, no space to move, and constant arguments,” said a local shopkeeper.

While calm has been restored, the episode underscores a larger challenge for Jamshedpur — balancing the booming demand for 10-minute deliveries with the city’s strained urban infrastructure.
For Blinkit, the Bistupur closure marks a major setback and a warning shot from authorities that civic order will take precedence over delivery speed.
