Dhanbad, Aug 27: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) anti-crime wing from Delhi continued its interrogation of Dr. Pranay Purvey, the treasurer of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Dhanbad chapter, in connection with the recent arrest of Principal Income Tax Commissioner Patna, Dr. Santosh Kumar, on bribery charges.

Arrests and raids
On Monday evening, a CBI team arrived in Dhanbad and detained Dr. Pranay Purvey, coal trader Gurpal Singh, printing press owner Ashok Chourasia, and Md. Asgar from various locations. The team conducted raids at their residences and establishments throughout the night.
Details of the bribery case
Dr. Santosh Kumar, who was arrested in Patna on Monday for accepting a bribe of Rs. 10 lakh, is also serving as the Principal Income Tax Commissioner for the Dhanbad region. Official sources revealed that a case involving Dhanbad coal trader Gurpal Singh was pending with Dr. Kumar, who allegedly demanded Rs. 10 lakh to resolve the matter.

Role of Dr. Pranay Purvey
Dr. Pranay Purvey, a close associate of Gurpal Singh, arranged the bribe money. On the scheduled date, a relative of Dr. Purvey attempted to deliver the bribe to Dr. Kumar on behalf of Gurpal Singh but was apprehended by the CBI.

Further developments
Following Dr. Santosh Kumar’s arrest, the CBI team quickly moved to Dhanbad, where they took Dr. Pranay Purvey into custody from the Dhanbad Club, where he also serves as the newly appointed secretary. The deputy commissioner of Dhanbad is the designated president of the club.
The CBI also apprehended Gurpal Singh from his residence on Katras Matkuria Road, Ashok Chourasia from his Bank More-based printing press, and Md. Asgar. The agency conducted additional raids at their residences and other locations.
As of noon, the interrogation of all four individuals was still ongoing at various locations, including Ashok Chourasia’s printing press at Bank More.
